Apple Updates iOS to Include Support for Spatial Video and the Photo Journal App

As part of the iOS 17.2 update, Apple has released a photo journaling app for iPhones that uses artificial intelligence (AI) and supports spatial video capture.

All compatible devices, including the iPadOS 17.2, macOS 14.2 Sonoma, and recent iPhones, can now 

download the iOS 17.2 update from Apple, which was released on Monday.

The new "Journal" app from Apple and the capability to capture spatial videos are among the updates.

Journal App :

Based on their iPhone activity, the Journal app—which was first released in June—suggests journaling topics to users in an intelligent manner.

Customizable alerts and private, tailored suggestions are offered by on-device machine learning to encourage journal entries and encourage users to write regularly. This can include things like images, videos, audio files, locations, exercises, and music and podcasts that the user has been enjoying.

Through journaling, which has been demonstrated to enhance wellbeing, Apple hopes that the Journal app will assist users in reflecting and cultivating gratitude. With the aid of images and videos, Journal users can also record and write about ordinary occurrences as well as noteworthy occasions in their lives to create priceless memories.

According to CNBC News, The Journal app showcases Apple's AI technology strategy. Unlike Google's and Microsoft's internet-based approach, Apple's AI software, which powers Journal, operates on the device itself rather than on a server in the cloud. This has privacy advantages, especially for sensitive information like health data or travel plans.

Spatial Video Capture for The iPhone 15 :

Alongside the September release of the iPhone 15, a feature for recording spatial videos was also announced for users of the iOS 17.2 update.

In order to produce 3D video, this update simultaneously records images from the phone's primary and ultrawide cameras. However, users will require Apple's Vision Pro, which is scheduled to release early next year, in order to view the videos taken with this particular feature.

Owners of the iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max can now begin recording content in three dimensions by turning on the spatial video capture feature in the Settings menu.

Apple claims that standard dynamic range 1080p 30 frames per second spatial videos are recorded. Users must rotate their iPhone to landscape orientation and launch the Camera app in video mode in order to record spatial videos. Select Record after tapping the spatial video icon.
